Expansion of Svartsengi Power Plant
HS Orka began construction on the expansion and renovation of the power plant in Svartsengi in the middle of 2023. The project is called SVA7, but it consists of renewing older equipment, installing a new machine and increasing the production capacity of the power plant by a third.

Ideas about geothermal utilization in Krýsuvík have a long history, but HS Orka has an exploration license in force in the area and the goal is for exploration drilling to begin in late 2024. The purpose of the research and planned utilization is to meet the rapidly growing demand for hot water and electricity in the capital area.
