HS Orka´s sustainability report for 2022
For the second time HS Orka now publishes a sustainability report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative Standards (GRI). In the report information is presented with regards to HS Orka’s impact on the environment, society and economy in the past year. Furthermore, HS Orka´s choice of six UN´s Sustainable Development Goals for implementation in its operations are now presented for the first time.

Best ever operating year for HS Orka
The year 2022 was the best operating year in the history of HS Orka hf. Operating revenue amounted to 10.6 billion ISK, increasing by 14.7% from the previous year. The largest part of this is due to the high price of aluminium and price increases in the wake of energy shortages. The financial standing of the company is strong with equity amounting to ISK 28.6 billion, and its equity ratio at 41.5% at the end of the year.

HS Orka commences 22MW expansion at Svartsengi Power Plant
HS Orka has broken ground on the 22 MW expansion of its Svartsengi Power plant. Svartsengi 7 will increase the current production capacity by 22 MWe bringing the total capacity to 85 MWe.

HS Orka and Hydrogen Ventures Limited (H2V) have reached an agreement on energy prices and other terms for a hydrogen production in Iceland, which will be used to produce methanol in HS Orka's Resource Park.

Letter of Intent signed to investigate the feasibility of producing synthetic fertiliser domestically
HS Orka, Kaupfélag Skagfirðinga and Fóðurblandan will conduct a feasibility study for a plant, located in Iceland, to produce fertiliser. The parties have signed a Letter of Intent to that effect.

Plans to invest ISK 15 billion in methanol production in Reykjanes
Hydrogen Ventures Limited (H2V), an international energy company, plans to produce a large amount of hydrogen in Iceland, which will be used to make methanol. Although the methanol production will be completely environmentally friendly, HVL's plant will be located in the Reykjanes Resource Park, near one of HS Orka's two power plants.

Construction work on the expansion of Reykjanes Power Plant to begin
Construction on the expansion of the Reykjanes Power Plant, which is set to start up in early 2023, will begin soon. The main projects have been put out to tender, and there has been a lot of interest in them. The 30 MW expansion is unique in that it makes use of geothermal water that is already being used at the existing power plant.

New Chief Legal Officer of HS Orka
Arna Grímsdóttir has been hired as HS Orka's new Chief Legal Officer. Arna has a Cand.jur. from the Faculty of Law at the University of Iceland and earned rights as a district court lawyer. She will start working for the company at the beginning of next year.
