Next Grant Allocation and Application Deadline
The HS Orka Community Fund aims to support socially beneficial projects led by individuals or groups. The next grant allocation will take place in autumn 2026, and applications are expected to open in August/September. Further information about the application process will be published later.
What Types of Projects Does the Fund Support?
Projects that have a positive impact on Icelandic society, quality of life, and community wellbeing. Applications for grants are accepted from all regions of Iceland, with special emphasis placed on supporting projects in communities near the company’s operating locations. When selecting projects, consideration is given, among other things, to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that HS Orka has adopted.
Applications must be submitted electronically through the fund’s application page on the company website. HS Orka’s Community Council reviews applications and announces grant recipients. Inquiries regarding applications may be sent to styrkir@hsorka.is
Grant Criteria for the HS Orka Community Fund
The fund provides grants for clearly defined projects and events. Grants are awarded to individuals, groups, independent institutions, and non-profit organizations.
Projects that are already well underway or completed will not be considered. It is important that applications include a description of the project’s current status in terms of preparation and implementation, along with details of the project activities for which the grant will be used.
Grants generally range from ISK 100,000 to 500,000, although larger grants may be considered. Grant funding is expected to be fully utilized within 12 months from the date of allocation.
Projects Most Likely to Receive Support
- Projects related to community and environmental issues, sustainability, and the energy transition.
- Projects related to public health, education, awareness and prevention initiatives, youth activities, culture, and the arts.
- Projects that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals adopted by HS Orka.
Projects Generally Not Eligible for Support
- The fund does not provide operational funding or grants for marketing activities.
- The fund generally does not provide educational or travel grants. However, travel expenses may, in certain cases, form part of projects supported by the fund.
- The fund does not provide grants for research or development projects carried out by universities, institutions, companies, or individuals.
