Reykjanesvirkjun Print

Production of energy from Reykjanesvirkjun began in May 2006 after numerous tests and test run had been made. Machine number 1 began its production in mid-May and Machine 2 by the end of May. The energy plant is designed in order for it to be controlled from a distance in control room in Svartsengi. Reykjanesplant is only a electrical energy plant which is comprised of two 50 twin steam turbines with sea cooled condensers, a first in Iceland, and they use 2x2000 l/s separated pumping system (which is about the same amount of flow in Elliða river.

For each pair there is a different system comprised of; pre-separators, moist separators, sea lids and silencers, steam lids, steam chimneys, steam holes and a steam utility system, a condensate system, sea and condensate drainage, electrical and control systems, all these systems are separate. Finally there is a shared drainage and enclosed shaft to the sea for cooled seawater, subterranean seawater and condensate, this is called the jet shaft.
