The goal of HS Orka is to guarantee that our workplace is defined by professional know how, job expertise, customer service, job satisfaction, integrity and mutual respect for one another. To be able to achieve these goals the company must have talented, keen and well educated employees, capable of showing leadership qualities and initiative in their work and being able to handle the new challenges on the horizon, therefore being part of the development of the company. It is also the company's priority to treat their employees in such a manner that job satisfaction is good and that the workplace environment is positive.

  1. The Role of Employees and Executives

    Their goals are to provide the best service at all times, capable of facing daily challenges, both new and changing projects. Executives are expected to have modern and good administration abilities, which in turn lead to and attract initiative, demonstrative abilities and the development of social and personal growth of employees. Executives are also expected to communicate efficiently with employees about issues that pertain to them and the company, ensuring that consensus is amongst employees and that any such information is passed along the proper channels.

  3. Job Development and Continuous Education

    HS Orka is dedicated towards constant job development for each employee, so that it can benefit each and every employee along with the company. Job development is not an unilateral goal of the employee or executives. Both are responsible and job development is comprised of interaction at work, continuous education, position changes or changes in the job itself and as well as cooperation. HS Orka makes continuous education available to all employees, both from within the company and outside, to increase their knowledge and expertise so they can further prosper in their jobs.
  4. Staff Interviews or Interactions

    The goal of HS Orka is to have regular meetings with staff; both meetings and interviews so that the interests of the employees and the company are met with meaningful dialog, ensuring that mutual demands and expectations are met by both sides.
  5. The Job and Family

    HS Orka makes it its priority, as much as possible, to create an environment for employees that harmonizes both job and family responsibilities. Employees are given the chance to decrease their workload when family matters are involved, for example when a family member is ill or a child must be taken care of, all depending on which situation arises at each given time. All overtime hours should be kept in moderation accordingly.
  6. Hiring and Retirement

    HS Orka is dedicated towards hiring the most skilled employees. All applicants have a fair chance, hiring is based on the abilities, education and experience of the employee applying for a position and his capability of handling the job. When hiring equality policies are always kept in mind. Job hiring should be finalized with a contract of employment. HS Orka ensures that new employees are educated about the main facets of the company. As stated by HS Orka job protocols: all employees that have reached the age of 70 must resign no later then the end of the month upon reaching such an age. When employees resign either because of age or other reasons, they have the option of speaking to the personnel manager and/or a head of department to communicate about well being during the aforementioned position, or about any reasons for their resignation or any other matter they wish.
  7. Safety Protocols and Health and Safety

    Safety issues are a priority at HS Orka and there is a committee within the company that handles all such matters.

  9. Attendance and Working Hours

    Employees are expected to fulfill their duties during regulated working hours and to show up at work promptly.
  10. Communication and Workplace Ethics

    Employees must show coworkers respect, tolerance and have a positive attitude that maintains and reflects a good working environment. Any disparaging comments, either verbal or physical directed at any other employee which harm them, cause discomfort or threaten them in any way will not be tolerated. Employees must keep job confidentiality on all matters that arise within in the job, pertaining to either the activities of the company or each partners or customers.
  11. Mental and Physical Well-Being

    HS Orka encourages its staff financially to take care of their health and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Hitaveita Suðurnesja also helps employees with direct assistance or guidance on how to overcome any substance abuse. Hitaveita Suðurnesja is a smoke-free environment.
